I was told of a celebrity spotting after a concert Saturday night by the Charleston Symphony Orchestra. In the front row was Brigid Brannagh (left) flanked by a couple of producers from Army Wives, a Lifetime Network show (it’s filmed in Charleston if you haven’t heard by now).
Brannagh was hard to miss with her stunning red hair and glamorous-as-if-made-for-TV face. She had come to hear Beethoven’s iconic Fifth Symphony and its dat-dat-dat-duuum. During intermission, she was surprised to learn, I’m told, that Charleston has a full-time symphony that performs this kind of quality with a steady kind of regularity nine months out of the year.
Given the news lately, there’s a chance that might not be the case for long. Even so, maybe there’s also room for hope. After all, if Brannagh likes the symphony, maybe her many thousands of fans would like to get a glimpse of the symphony, too, some day. —John Stoehr
