Swarms of Mt. Pleasant residents attended the grand opening of Bambu Saturday night, obviously thirsty for a new drinking hole East of the Cooper. The upscale Asian-infused restaurant and bar is modern and thematically decorated, with Far East-style lamps and paintings adorning the walls and ceiling, and plenty of outdoor space as well. The crowd filled the moderately-sized restaurant, and livened up when a large party filed in after descending from a stretch Escalade parked conveniently out front. We’ll definitely be back to sample some of the cuisine off of the extensive menu and sushi from the five-page list, prepared by head chef Chang-Ce Yun and sushi chef David DeGuia; both have worked in various restaurants in Charleston including Tsunami and Hank’s Seafood. The giant patio will be worth a trip alone in the summer.
