Because of my recent illness, I was unable to make it out to the Baked party last night — which really bums me out, cause I love sweet stuff. Luckily, our calendar girl Erica Jackson was able to get over there and file this report:

Charleston’s newest little bakery ruined a lot of people’s dinner Thursday night, as they hosted their first tasting and book signing.

Owners Matt Lewis and Renato Poliafito were in from NYC for the event, sitting at the big table in the library lounge, shmoozing and signing copies of their book Baked: New Frontiers in Baking.

The cost of the tasting was only $5, giving us a cup of hot cocoa, a fluffy white marshmallow, and one of the intriguingly delicious sweet & salty cupcakes. Lewis’ father Larry, who’s helping manage the Charleston store, walked around offering trays of additional treats, like chocolate chip cookies and their famous brownies. We left delightfully stuffed, but I must admit, pretty excited to return and try more of Baked’s goodies.  —Erica Jackson
