Gibbes Museum of Art
This might shock you. Get ready — we still don’t talk about slavery around these parts. Nope. Evidently, it’s taboo! So when Angela Mack, curator of the Gibbes Museum of Art, designed a show that took an unflinching look at the evils of white supremacy through the lens of landscapes, it was a gutsy move. And to do all that amid the Spoleto Festival, the busiest time of the year, a time in which she might as well have aired Charleston’s dirty laundry — well, that was gutsy, too. She’s too modest to say it herself. And now that she’s the executive director of the Gibbes, she’s far too busy to look back on her accomplishments.
