Bill Walsh

WCSC, Live 5 News

When the winter weather dips down into the mid 30s or so, longtime local weatherman Walsh — the animated but accurate chief meteorologist for WCSC-TV Channel 5 — will lay it down in his high-pitched, rapid-fire style: “You’ll need two cups of that pipin’ hot joe!” If it gets even colder, maybe below freezing, Walsh ups the ante and declares in an even louder, higher tone, “You might need four cups of that pipin’ hot joe!” Imagine if Charleston’s winter weather ever dipped below 10 degrees — he might even have to yelp an octave higher at the top of his lungs, “You’re gonna need nine, yes, nine cups of that pipin’ hot joe!”
