Memminger Auditorium

Memminger Auditorium lost its roof to Hurricane Hugo. Then it wasn’t used for much except Spoleto — the annual festival used it for opera. The rest of the time it sat broken and empty. But last May saw the results of a $20 million renovation project. Now it’s the city’s premier venue. Charleston Stage puts on shows there. Spoleto will, of course, use it. Even the Charleston Symphony Orchestra has relocated some of its Masterworks concerts there. It all makes sense — the room is adaptable (seats can be configured in a thrust or theater-in-the-round or whatever) and just the right size. And it’s down the way from hella good bars and restaurants.
