It started with a whimper, not a bang. But that’s old news now. Last month, the Charleston Arts Coalition, whose mission is to serve artists, put on its first event. The carnival-themed debut rallied the city’s sprawling community of artists and united them under one banner. Next up is the launch of a “virtual gateway,” as President Jessica Solomon Bluestein calls it, a website that tells you everything you want to know about the arts in the Lowcountry. Kudos to Bluestein and company for initiating a service artists have badly needed for a long time. Now if only we can get more venues to open.
