Halsey Institute of Contemporary Art

Mend: Love, Life, & Loss was at the Halsey Institute of Contemporary Art, and its central symbol was the thread — the bond that binds, that breaks, and that can, with time and luck, be mended. Out of a handful of artists participating in the show, one stands out: Adrienne Antonson, a Charleston artist. Her work used human hair. At first, we thought we were looking at carefully woven threads fashioned into a pair of spectacles. Resting on a white platform, the glasses were in fact made of her own hair. The effect was an exquisite paradox and an impressive feat.
