There are some restaurant aficionados out there who’ve enjoyed potatoes in some form or another as a component in a sandwich: crushed potato chips on top of a burger patty, chunky potato salad on a club, grilled scallion potato pancakes as the “bread.” At the West Ashley hangout Tin Roof, potatoes have made their way into one of their most popular menu items: the Cleveland Steamer. Two thick, buttery slices of grilled Texas toast get topped with a thin mashed potato cake, melted cheddar cheese, copious amounts of crumbled bacon, a dollop of sour cream, and thinly-diced chives. Weird but full of flavor. It’s the tastiest gut bomb in the city.
