On Saturday, a very green gathering of Irish revelers took to the streets of Park Circle to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. Anchoring the party was City Paper‘s readers’ pick for most authentic pub, Madra Rua, which was packed to the brim with folks trying to grab a quick bite. Other Park Circle favorites like the Mill and EVO Pizza were also jammed with partygoers. Those not wanting to wait in line found street-side stands hawking corned beef hash and burgers along with Guinness and Irish Car Bombs. The streets were a mix of stroller-toting families and singles. The family-friendly entertainment was supplied by the jump castle and mechanical bull, while Joy Ride cranked out their top-notch versions of classic rock favorites. Despite the dreary skies, a group of guys with a beer funnel and a cooler turned a small alcove of the crowd into their very own house party. They were offering the joy of binge drinking to strangers until an organizer came and rained on their parade. He must not have been Irish.
