An amendment to the federal economic stimulus make the state legislature the final word on accepting the money may be illegal, according to a McClatchy story today.
Gov. Mark Sanford has said that he’ll refuse up to $700 million of the state’s take if he can’t apply it toward South Carolina’s debt.
A report to be released today says the amendment raises questions about taking away Sanford’s power. It’s ironic, considering what little power Sanford has over the state’s purse strings is shared by a board.
