EVENT | Running of the Jimmy Choos
How far would you run for $10,000? Ten thousand miles? Ten miles? If you’re a non-runner like me, 100 yards is more your style. Lucky for us, the inaugural Stiletto Stampede (a kick-off to Charleston Fashion Week) requires only that to win the $10,000 prize. That and wearing three-inch heels while running. No biggie, right? Over the past few weeks we’ve met several ladies (and gentlemen) who’ve admitted to training for the big race. Though we wish to God we could have seen these training sessions, we’ll get to watch on Saturday, when who knows how many people will be stumbling toward the finish line. The winner will receive $5,000 in cash and a $5,000 gift certificate to Gwynn’s, the main sponsor of the event. Charleston magazine will also give $1,000 to the person with the best costume. There will also be a kids run for divas in training at 7:50 a.m., and all kids will win a prize. The Finish Festival will be held directly after the race in the Whole Foods parking lot and will include entertainment, food, souvenirs, refreshments, and more. Proceeds benefit MUSC Children’s Hospital. We imagine the result of this event will be lots of blisters and sprained ankles. And hilarity. ART | 365 days with Trantenna
It’s hard to believe that Transit Antenna has been on the road for over a year, but it’s true. The Redux-sponsored project has the TA crew — Bob, Dawn, and Taylor Snead; Seth Gadsden; Jamie Self; Josef and Amy Kristofoletti; and Kentridge the dog — living and traveling across the country in a bus that runs on vegetable oil. They’ve still got a year to go, but they’re stopping in Charleston for a quick pit stop. “The motivation behind the visit is to take care of some business at the DMV; however, Walter [the bus] is in need of some TLC, and we could all use some time to visit friends and family,” they say on the blog. On Saturday night, they’ll be sharing 365 pieces inspired by and created during their travels. We can’t wait to see what they’ve come up with. —EJ Sat., March 21.
