The Charleston Farmers Market promotes local produce and local farmers — a worthy goal — but the vendors aren’t selling all local stuff — which is fine, I guess. If they sold only local stuff, we’d have a pretty limited supply of vegetables right about now. But I don’t like being misled by vendors. They should sell what they say they’re selling.
Case in point: see picture of a Guatemalan canteloupe (says so right there on the sticker). See masking tape below melon that touts these as Florida melons? ![]()
Yeah, not cool. And to make it worse, this melon being passed off as a Floridian for $4 was on sale at Harris Teeter — buy one get one free for $3.49.
