The Mellow Mushroom in Mt. Pleasant (3110 Hwy. 17 N., 843-881-4PIE) can’t wait to properly celebrate its grand opening with a big band party. The cool new pizza place hosts a big, all-day, family-friendly Back Yard Bash on Sat. May 2 from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. with live rock music from local and visiting acts.

For the kids, they’ll have monster slides, a jump castle, basketball games, face-painting, and balloon makers. f290/1240003254-mellowmushroom.dummy_320x240.gif

“We have two great bars out here — one inside and one new one outside — and we’re starting to feature live music each week,” says owner Walt Harrus. “I would like to do this bash every year.”

A portion of the proceeds benefits the Mikel Foundation, a public charity organization founded in 1997 for the purpose of helping children and families of children with genetic disorders.

The Budweiser Beer Truck will be on hand as well as a few José Cuervo and Jeremiah Weed “shot girls.”

On the main outdoor stage, the music starts at 12:30 p.m. The band roster includes the Larry David Project (featuring Larry Strickland and Dave Dunning), Matt Jordan (of TrickKnee) with special guests, and Americana act The Nashville Songwriters Tour — a band of seasoned session musicians from Music City: Sabrina Murdaugh, James Casto, Joe West, and JP Williams.
