Busy local booking agency Other Brother Entertainment (Bryan Mahanes, Greg Walker, and the gang), Piccolo Spoleto, and the City Paper present the first annual “Bluegrass on the Green” this Sunday on the green grass of Marion Square at the corner of King and Calhoun streets.
On the bill are the Bushels, Common Ground, and Papa Futch. Acoustic quartet the Bushels (pictured) are the popular house act at Off the Hook on Sullivan’s Island. The band stretches out from traditional bluegrass into various roots styles on the five tunes on their recent self-titled EP. The vocal harmony-driven Common Ground is one of Charleston’s longest-running bluegrass groups, handling a mix of traditionals and contemporary songs on banjo, acoustic guitar, mandolin, and bass. Florence-based Papa Futch is the father of Hank and Hal Futch (of the original Blue Dogs and the Futch Brothers).
The free event starts at noon and runs until 4 p.m. Music fans are encouraged to bring their blankets and folding chairs. Check out otherbrotherent.com for more info.
