You remember that sweet southern comfort snack filled with all that marshmallow goo and wrapped up in a shell of chocolate? It made a soft little crunch in your mouth and melted on your fingertips when you ate it under the hot summer sun. Now you can have all that and more at 48 N. Market at the brand new MoonPie General Store. The store held a soft opening Saturday, May 31, and we hear they received a enthusiastic reaction from all the nostalgic passers-by lured in by the classic, golden moon logo. Inside customers can taste many new and old favorites, including the newest member of the MoonPie family, the peanut butter MoonPie, along with the original factory-fresh MoonPies. In addition to these chocolately treats, the store is also stocked with R.C. Cola and hotdogs galore. The inside will certainly take you back in time with that authentic “general store” feel as well as allow you to enjoy modern day fun, such as a MoonPie digital photo booth and news updates from the MoonPie factory to be viewed on the big screen TVs.
The Grand Opening is this Saturday from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. with the viewing and ceremonial cutting of the “world’s largest MoonPie” at 2 p.m. The pie, which is said to weigh 55 pounds and measure 40” in diameter (and total 45,000 calories), is traveling all the way from Chattanooga, Tennessee, the home of the MoonPie. At the opening there will also be $1 hotdogs, 50 cent R.C. Colas, and free MoonPies while supplies last.
