After recently receiving her Bachelor of Arts in studio art at Davidson, Charleston resident Katie Mixon is generating buzz on the website Ugallery.com.

The national website, created by Alex Farkas, Greg Rosborough, and Stephen Tanenbaum, was created as an outlet for artists just like Katie — those starting up and eager for somewhere to showcase their work. Ugallery.com is selective, accepting only about 25 percent of submissions, and prices on the site range from $20-$5,000. The site not only gives new artists a place to get their foot in the door, but it’s also a great way for buyers to find pieces from up-and-coming artists with still-affordable price tags.

After graduating, Katie moved to Charleston to be closer to the coast, which inspires much of her work. “My goal as an artist is to create contemplative compositions with bold color, fluid movement, and aggressive texture,” Katie says in her artist statement on the website. Check Ugallery for different exhibitions and an e-portfolio of her works.
