Proprietor Shannon Campbell, a native of Connecticut, seems determined to show East Cooper what a traditional Yankee delicatessen is all about with his new restaurant Mozzo. Situated in the Brookgreen Towne Center on Coleman in Mt. Pleasant, Mozzo opened its doors in the old Schlotzsky’s spot across from the Food Lion, Village Playhouse, and Starbucks. After a total renovation of the kitchen and dinning area, the place is bright and open, with plenty of table seating and a private lounge area. At the core of the menu are a variety of traditional New York/New England-style deli sandwiches served on fresh-baked bread (cold, toasted, or grilled upon request), with homemade soups, specialty salads, and gourmet burgers. Most sandwiches are priced between $5 and $8. The breakfast menu (they start serving at 6 a.m. Mon.-Sat., and at 7 a.m. on Sunday) boasts creatively-assembled sandwiches and gourmet french toast made with challah bread and a cinnamon/vanilla egg custard. Soft drink connoisseurs might like to explore the cooler full of specialty ginger ales and flavored sodas. So far, it’s breakfast and lunch only. Mozzo is located at 730 Coleman Blvd. Call (843) 388-5755 for more.
