Last week, some on the City Paper office noticed a rising level of excitement level over Jim Rose’s forthcoming “Sideshow” gig at the Music Farm on Sat. Aug. 8. Rose and his troupe were due in town in support of a new book titled Snake Oil: Life’s Calculations, Misdirections, and Manipulations — “an eclectic encyclopedia of the tricks behind the tricks.”

The tour was promoted as “The Jim Rose Circus vs. Jake ‘The Snake’ Roberts Tour,” but it looks like things came to a sudden halt this week when Rose suffered an injury …or so they say (maybe it’s art of the act, maybe it’s not).

“It is with our deepest regret to report the news that Jim Rose of Jim Rose Circus received a brutal beating with a metal chair, wielded by former WWE wrestler Kizarny, at the Galaxy Theatre in Santa Ana this past weekend,” read the press release posted to the Music Farm’s show schedule. “His already fragile neck has been injured even further.”

The tour will be postponed until later this year. Check out jimrosecircus.com and musicfarm.com for more.
