Rep. Joe Wilson (R-Of Course South Carolina) has apologized for his town hall outburst. This guy must really like a challenge.

Here’s his statement: “This evening I let my emotions get the best of me when listening to the President’s remarks regarding the coverage of illegal immigrants in the health care bill. While I disagree with the President’s statement, my comments were inappropriate and regrettable. I extend sincere apologies to the President for this lack of civility.”

Wilson won election last year with 54 percent of the vote in his district. Much will be said in the coming months about whether Obama supporters will show up nationally, but they will certainly show up in Wilson’s district.

And, his outburst is sure to rally some teabaggers to his cause, but they’d have faithfully made it to the polls anyway. Meanwhile, moderates will be turned off and run to the nearest middle-of-the-road Democrat.
