Missed some of last year’s Charleston Comedy Festival? Just want to relive the funny? Local filmmaker Justin Nathanson has put together a Best of the Charleston Comedy Festival DVD, which hits the highlights of the 2009 line-up (minus some of the naughty bits in order to keep it an R rating). “It is quite the compilation,” says Brandy Sullivan of Theatre 99. “Funnier than real life,” jokes T99’s Greg Tavares. “Better than being there.”

Nathanson was given full access to all the performances by groups like I Eat Pandas, FUCT, and God’s Pottery, along with stand-up bits by Jon Steinberg and Kenny Z. He also filmed backstage antics and the entire local Stand-Up Competition, putting together a voluminous collection of hilarious improv, sketch, and stand-up performances.

The DVD will be available for purchase at charlestoncomedyfestival.com for $19.99 and at Theatre 99 for $9.99. A PG-version of the Best of the Charleston Comedy Festival will air on Comcast (C2) starting this Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Be sure to tune in.
