The Flowertown Players, Summerville’s resident theater troupe, received a $5,900 grant from the South Carolina Arts Commission. The money will go toward day-to-day operations within the James F. Dean Community Theatre — things like materials, salaries, and marketing. This is the third year that SCAC is donating to The Flowertown Players, which has funded about a third of the company’s yearly budget.

Artistic Director Sean Lakey is grateful to the SCAC and other local donors for this generous gift, saying, “We can continue to provide a place for our friends and neighbors to enjoy, both as volunteers and as loyal patrons.”

These loyal patrons can witness the benefits of the grant when they go see Whodunnit?, a comedic murder mystery that opened Jan. 22. Other shows coming to the theater are Brilliant Traces opening Feb. 18, The Odd Couple in April, and Nowflowertownplayers.org or call (843) 875-9251. —Christina Janke in May.
