Forget the hundreds of Republicans running for the 1st congressional district, the real news this week is that Jimmy Wood, who is “extremely conservative,” will be on the ballot in November.
This is nothing but good news for the Democratic candidates. The big question is how good the news is.
“He’d have to get Sarah Palin to come in,” says Jeri Cabot, a political science professor at the College of Charleston.
Wood says the tea party folks are a natural base for him. But in South Carolina, it’s becoming evident that there isn’t an once of shade between the SCGOP and the tea party movement.
It’s important to remember is that this is not New York. Republicans in this district aren’t ignoring the “extreme conservative” wing of the party, politicians here are embracing them.
That said, it’s going to all come down to the Republican candidate and just how enamored the far right voters are with him.
