A sad piece of music news just came in. Veteran blues artist Lil’ Dave Thompson died yesterday morning (Feb. 14) in a highway automobile accident near Augusta , Ga., while on his way home from Charleston to Greenville, Miss. He and his band had just played the last gig of their tour — a show on Sat. Feb. 13 at Fiery Ron’s Home Team BBQ on Sullivan’s Island as part of the Lowcountry Blues Bash.
“Dave was a hard-working, really nice guy who played exquisite blues,” Lowcountry Blues Bash organizer Gary Erwin said in statement today. “We will miss him a lot. We are reminded of how fragile life is and how dangerous it can be to be a travelling blues artist. We are happy and proud to have known Dave, and to have heard his music.”
