Charleston Fashion Week officially-officially begins tonight with the Emerging Designers Competition under the tents. As one of the only nights with a complete focus on up-and-coming designers, this is the show to attend if you can only go to one. Eight local and regional designers will present the fruits of their labor. And the stakes are high — last year’s winner Marysia now has her line of bathing suits at Anthropologie and Urban Outfitters; finalist Lindsey Carter got a mention in Women’s Wear Daily. The EDC will be followed by a show by Project Runway star Gordana Gehlhausen. Some $45 tickets were still available last time we checked, so get on it!
By the way, if you haven’t read Kinsey Labberton’s feature on the Emerging Designer Competition, here it is. She interviews Anna Lassiter (who describes her line as "bohemian glam"), Hannalei Taylor (who’s inspired by being a mother), and Julia Faye Davison (“A Native American man falls in love with a Regent British woman” is the storyline behind her creations). If you can’t make it tonight, check back to Seersucker & Stilettos for a full review, photos, and video of the show.
