Bag pipers, (green) beer drinkers, and wild St. Patty’s Day flair filled the streets of Charleston in celebration of the Irish holiday Wednesday. People were out and about all day and night, attending the St. Patrick’s Day parade and parties. Hot-spots included Irish pubs Tommy Condon’s and O’Malleys, as well as Mellow Mushroom.

Tommy Condon’s and O’Malley’s were filled with hardcore celebrators, including members of the Hibernian Society. Folks from this Irish organization could be found sporting tuxedos for the night, as the group throws a black-tie dinner every year for the holiday. The rest of the crowd went for the more traditional St. Patrick’s Day attire: green anything.

Over at Mellow Mushroom, the crowd knew how to party, but not necessarily celebrate. The scene was hot, literally, as every inch of the upstairs bar was filled with a sea of green dancing to the beats of Electric Friends. But the most Irish thing in the place was the luck of some people making out on the back corner bench.
