Here is an example of the intelligence and temperament that keep South Carolina backward, ignorant and violent. It was emailed by Ken ( I will not embarrass him with his last name). He was taking me to task for something I wrote three years ago about the tragedy of Sametta Heyward and her two children. Heyward left Sean, 4, and Triniti, 2, in her car on a blazing July day, while she went to work a double shift. The children died in the over-heated car and on Friday a Charleston County jury found her guilty of homicide by children abuse. Judge Markley Dennis sentenced her to nine years in state prison.

Yes, this is a tragedy for all, and Ken’s misdirected rage only compounds it. But it does shine a light into a dark corner of the South Carolina psyche. This is what we are up against when we try to drag this benighted state into the 21st century.

You despicable piece of shit. I just came upon what you likely consider to be your “journalistic” piece about the woman who murdered her two children in the trunk of her car. What the fuck kind of twisted ideological motivation would compell someone to think and then print such filth as you do. To assert that ANYONE other than that mindless piece of trash should be held responsible for the horrific deaths of her children is beyond excuse. Do you know what happens when a human being dies in the conditions that those kids died? When they were found, just like the child of another single, black, irresponsible mother’s child was found in a parking lot in Atlanta, they had pulled all of their own hair out. Clawed the skin off their own faces in utter agony and despair. And you, you cocksucker, decide to use her nonchalance as her children died as an indictment of someone other than her. As a fucking political statement?!?!? You, by the looks of you, will die of a massive coronary face down in a plate of steak and potatoes. Your family will have a catfight over who will get their piece of what remains of your despicable legacy. I must say, however, that it is my sincere hope that you meet the same fate that those two poor children met. But, alas, people like you don’t suffer the fate of those you purport to care for. You just make your money off them and move on. Go to hell.
