Charleston orch-pop/alt-rock band The Specs — frontman Eric Galloway (guitars, keys, and lead vocals), guitarist Steve Tirozzi, drummer Shawn Krauss, and bassist Tripp Wrenn — have been putting the finishing touches on a new album.

As they did on their previous collection, a self-titled disc that came out in 2008, they’ve worked with acclaimed studio producer and guitarist Les Hall (of Crossfade and Trey Anastasio’s touring band) in Hall’s recording studio in Columbia. The band wraps the sessions this summer.

They’re keeping busy on stage as well. They opened for the Modern Skirts at the Caledonia Lounge in Athens, Ga., last week, and they’ll warm things up for Dead Confederate at the Pour House on Wed. April 28 (look for extra coverage in this week’s Music+Clubs section). Visit www.myspace.com/thespecs for more.
