Likely conservative presidential hopeful (and former U.S. Senator) Rick Santorum will return to the Charleston area on Friday. He’ll be stumping for Congressman Gresham Barrett (one of four GOP gubernatorial hopefuls) at a meet and greet at 5 p.m. on Friday at 2319 Seabrook Island Road on Seabrook Island. At 9 a.m. Saturday, he’ll be the keynote speaker at the Dorchester County Republican Breakfast at the Golf Club at Westcott Plantation in Summerville.

Santorum was defeated in his reelection effort in 2008, but he’s a darling of the social conservative movement and certainly isn’t spending all of this time in South Carolina for his health. His last visit to the Lowcountry was a lecture at The Citadel earlier this spring.
