Maya Lin’s poster had me scratching my head just as much as anyone. But I’m starting to appreciate it a little more, at least based on Spoleto General Director Nigel Redden’s explanation. In an article we published a day after the unveiling, Redden pointed out that the poster represents what Spoleto is all about: Different ideas and different forms of art coming together in one place.

In the last 24 hours or so, I’ve been to a ballet with an all-male, cross-dressing cast. I sat in a small, dark theater and watched comedians improvise scenes together. I saw Atlanta’s Feed & Seed Marching Abominable sparkle and dance their way through Marion Square. I listened as two accomplished artists (Nick Cave and Phyllis Galembo) shared their processes with an intimate crowd at the Halsey. I toured the beautifully decayed Aiken-Rhett House (the inspiration for Proserpina’s set design), and I saw a play based on a 1950s sci-fi flick with a very unexpected twist.

And all that’s just a snapshot of what’s been going on this weekend. Just take a look at our reviews to see what I mean.

There’s truly something for everyone this season, and it’s only just begun.
