There are less than 50 albino alligators alive in the world. And luckily, we’ve got one of them here in Charleston, at the S.C. Aquarium. There’s also others in the Lowcountry, too. Who knows where you might spot one around town. Maybe at your favorite restaurant or at the grocery store.
But these extra alligators aren’t real, of course. That would be pretty dangerous. During the month of June, the aquarium, Apex Broadcasting, and the Charleston City Paper are sponsoring a contest in honor of the rare gators. Fifty albino alligator stickers have been placed all around the city. If you spot a sticker, log onto www.berare.org and be ready to give which alligator you found (they’ve all been numbered) and where you found it. You can take a picture of the sticker as well. You’ll receive points for every alligator you find. At the end of the month, the points will be tallied.
(Hint: A lot of those stickers are on CP boxes. But don’t tell anyone I said anything.)
The winner will get the Albino Alligator Winning Package, which includes a year membership to the aquarium, an exhibit tour of the albino alligator, a behind-the-scenes tour of the Great Ocean Tank and Adopt-An-Alligator package, and best of all: you’ll get to see a live alligator feeding.
