Just when you thought the story of blogger Will Folks and his alleged affair with gubernatorial candidate Nikki Haley was destined for the collection of second-tier S.C. sex scandals, today’s latest “news” has given it top-tier status.

Earlier today, consultant Larry Marchant quit the campaign of a Haley primary opponent, Lt. Gov. André Bauer. Word from the Post and Courier was that information came out a week ago that led Bauer to ask for a resignation.

Now comes a report from The Associated Press that Marchant is claiming to be Haley’s second paramour (“One night only”).

The AP notes that this is another claim without proof, probably even less so considering Marchant’s was an alleged one-time deal.

“This is disgusting politics,” Haley says. “This is everything that is wrong with politics.”

Haley suggests Bauer’s campaign is involved. Bauer says he didn’t want to be associated with this and would not get involved in other people’s personal relationships.
