I’m all for building an empire. At the very least because I fondly remember being stoned out of my gourd in 605 Johnstone E playing marathon sessions of Risk, night after night after night.
Those were good times. Not the best. But just a little bit of all right. So forgive me, if I’d like to see how all that conquering and ass-kicking plays out in the real world.
Unfortunately, all that empire building ain’t going so well. Nope. Not at all.
In fact, taking over the world doesn’t look like it’s going to get any easier, judging by the comments made today by General David Petraeus in front of the Senate Armed Services Committee about the ongoing war effort in Afghanistan. According to the BBC, Petraeus said:
“Helping to train and equip host nation forces in the midst of an insurgency is akin to building an advanced aircraft while it is in flight, while it is being designed, and while it is being shot at. There is nothing easy about it.”
In other words, victory in Afghanistan is a pipe dream. It’s impossible.
Thanks for clearing the air, general.
Now, why don’t you tell your boss man to put down the bong and bring the troops back home.
