Volunteers continue to circulate petitions for an independent run by Charleston businesswoman Linda Ketner.

A June survey from Rasmussen Reports suggests there is more than there are voters out there looking for an alternative.

The poll, done a week after Alvin Greene’s surprise primary win, found the unknown candidate far behind Sen. Jim DeMint, 58 percent to 21 percent.

Many have presumed that black voters would back Greene simply because of race, but only 51 percent of black voters supported the candidate.
