We’ll admit we’re a little late on this one — go ahead, slap our wrists. King Street got a new pop-up shop last month when Sam’s Closet opened at 235 King Street (in the old Sharper Image store). They recently renewed their lease, so they’ll be in town at least until Aug. 5.

Recent University of South Carolina graduate Samantha Molgren started Sam’s Closet as a way to bring fashionable options to college girls in towns with limited shopping. Originally from Houston, she was disappointed with the selection in Columbia. After graduating, she began traveling to college towns like Athens, Clemson, and Auburn, hosting trunk show/pop up shop hybrids for the fashion-starved students.

After a recent move to Mt. Pleasant, Molgren opened her first storefront on June 5, and she says business has been good so far, thanks in part to Spoleto and tourist traffic. She specializes in lines like Ali Ro, 213 by Michelle Kim, and Myne, with prices ranging from $30-$350.

As for the future, Molgren plans to keep her options open. “I’m going to try to stick around for August and see what the College of Charleston brings when the students come back to school,” she says. “Then I’ll just go from there.”
