The South Carolina Film Commission, along with the University of South Carolina and Trident Technical College, is currently accepting grant applications from independent filmmakers to support short projects. One large grant, worth $100,000, will be awarded to a major short-film project and will be managed by USC during the 2011-2012 school year. Up to six smaller grants (worth $2,000-$10,000) for smaller films will be managed by Trident Tech during its 2010-2011 school year. On a press release on its website, the Film Commission says “The Production Fund was created to develop collaborative projects between the film industry and institutions of higher learning. The projects help independent producers and other professionals in the motion picture industry work with students to help build a talent pool and with people already in the field who want to sharpen their skills.” The application deadline is Aug. 27. For more information, call Tom Clark at (803) 737-0498 or visit the commission’s website.
