The Coastal Conservation League and the City Paper announced the Music with a Message contest for the third annual Charleston Green Fair, set to take place in Marion Square on Sun. Sept. 26.

Organizers are utilizing Facebook to conduct and promote the contest. “Since music has consistently been at the heart of social change, we thought there is no better way to reach a wider audience than with the power of social media,” says Dana Beach, executive director of the Coastal Conservation League. Starting on Sun. Aug. 15, musicians, artists, and performers can enter by uploading a three-to-five-minute video to the Music With a Message page at

Online voting from Aug. 16-30 will determine the winner. A panel of local judges will pick a grand prize winner. All four top acts will get to perform on the main stage in Marion Square in front of the several thousand in attendance. The headlining act for the event will be announced soon. Over 100 exhibitors and nonprofits will showcase their green products and services at the Green Fair.
