An ambitious camera crew stopped by the NotSo Hostel this weekend to film a three- to five-minute “sizzle reel” for Hostel Hunters, a proposed show which will showcase hostels from around the country. Columbia-based film producer Aaron Blumberg hopes the series will get a spot on the Discovery Channel. NotSo Hostel manager Victoria Matsis had just two hours to get camera-ready Saturday morning, following the departure of some 25 guests.

Matsis was given a script and led the crew around her home away from home (she actually lives on the property). She spoke to the camera about the usual stuff: the organic breakfast the hostel provides each day and the eco-friendly, custom-made mattress covers, but mostly about how awesome Charleston is.

Saturday night, for fun extra footage and in honor of Matsis’ birthday, the cast and crew hosted a party in the long gravel-pit driveway behind the house on Spring Street. The event was open to the public, with some music blaring from big speakers, a way-too-hot-for-Charleston-summer bonfire blazing, and ping-pong games in full swing. A very low-key crowd mingled with Aussies and Brits from the hostel, but most people were forced to leave early, as their faces began slowly melting off thanks to the stifling heat and humidity.
