Both Mellow Mushroom locations will lend a hand this month to two different charities.

Mellow Mushroom Mt. Pleasant is teaming up with Hootie and the Blowfish to lend a helping hand to those in need of some back-to-school essentials. Hootie’s Homegrown Roundup, Back to School Basics gives the community a chance to fill the backpacks of many children in the Lowcountry.

Now through Aug. 10, stop by Mellow Mushroom to donate school supplies and receive a free cheesy appetizer. On Wed. Aug. 11, Mellow Mushroom will move the donations to Burke High School. There, more than a thousand students from four Charleston elementary schools will be able to stuff their backpacks full of supplies.

School supplies aren’t the only things needed to prepare for the school year. The world-famous musicians believe in using their success to help those in need, especially children. The Roundup will also offer essential services including haircuts, eye exams, dental exams, backpacks, shoes, and more.

And Aug. 9-15, Mellow Mushroom downtown will allow patrons to donate a portion of their receipt to Creative Spark Center for the Arts. If a customer mentions to their bartender or server that they want to contribute, the restaurant will donate 15 percent of the receipt’s total The benefit kicks off with a party on Aug. 9 from 10 p.m.-2 a.m. with DJ Jake Wisse.
