Greenway Studio in Avondale is hosting its first artists reception on Sun. Sept. 12. The gallery opened in June but has remained relatively quiet while the owners have settled in. Co-owner James Baldwin specializes in illustrative, graphic design, and comic work. When he had trouble finding a niche in downtown’s gallery scene, he decided to open up Greenway with Melanie Merz, a jewelry artist.

“We don’t take art as seriously as some of the fine artists we know of,” Merz says. “We’re serious about our art in that we like to have fun with it. That’s what we’re all about.”

The coming reception will feature works from Baldwin and sculptural potter John Davis. Look out for their official grand opening in late November. Stop by the gallery on Daniel Street, or call (843) 766-4330 for more information.
