Thursday evening, Gibbes members got a first peek at the museum’s fall exhibits Face Lift and Stacy Lynn Waddell’s The Evidence of Things Unseen. Museum fellows arrived early, and after a glass of wine and schmoozing downstairs headed upstairs for a brief talk by featured artist Waddell.
As the night wore on, Waddell held court in the rotunda surrounded by her work. “I’m just blown away,” we overheard one fellow say quietly as she pondered Waddell’s large-scale, singed brown and white pieces.
Over in the cavernous main gallery, guests got a fresh look at portraits from the museum’s permanent collection. Curator Sara Arnold paired various portraits and their insightful descriptions together — the juxtaposition helped us see the familiar pieces in a whole new light.
