Although entitled Freeloaders, with an emphasis on “free,” it must be mentioned that great deals and savings can be found through this week at tons of area restaurants for Charleston Restaurant Week.
Monday. The main Charleston County Public Library continues their Off the Grid concert series this evening at 6 p.m. Tonight’s musical acts are local rock/Americana artists Henry’s Attic and Arcadia, as well as Kansas native Holly Reed, a songwriter and poet. All concerts in the series are archived on CCPL’s website.
Wednesday. Charleston area abstract and mixed media painter Christopher Murphy is presenting his new body of work at an opening party. The contemporary collection incorporates found objects and architectural elements provided by the architects of the Byers Group. CofC hosts the premiere of Edgewood: Stage of Southern History.
Thursday. Get some female empowerment at Cannonborough: A Tour of the Senses, a communal event featuring the women-owned business of the downtown neighborhood, like Mac & Murphy and Wild Flour Bakery.
Friday. Ice Storm opens with a lecture by artist Carson Fox followed by a reception to celebrate her transforming Redux into a winter wonderland. Her installations of intricate snowflakes, icicles, frozen flowers, and snow drifts are cast resin sculptures that take one out of the winterless South and into a world of eternal coldness.
Saturday. Community service is selfless, rewarding, beneficial, and most importantly, free for you. Saturday is South Carolina’s largest one-day litter cleanup our beaches, marshes, and waterways. Beach Sweep/River Sweep is put on by the South Carolina Sea Grant.
Sunday. Bowens Island Restaurant will host the Charleston 2 the Gulf fundraiser.
