It may be a month off, but it’s never to early for a scare. Check out these local attractions, which open Oct. 1.
Boone Hall’s Fright Nights boast the title of “South Carolina’s largest multi-attraction haunted event.” The plantation is offering several ways to scare yourself silly. You can step inside the vampire-ridden “Bloodstone Manor,” take a ride on the Body Farm Haunted Hayride, speed-walk through the Fright Stalkers Corn Field, or be a part of the Psycho Clowns Side Show. Individual tickets for these attractions range from $6 to $10, or you can score an “All You Dare to Scare” pass, letting you enjoy all the attractions for $25. Parents may want to use discretion before bringing the kids.
If the Fright Nights are too much for the young ones, Boone Hall is offering a family-friendly alternative, the Boone Hall Pumpkin Patch. Also open all October, the Pumpkin Patch offers plenty of kid-oriented options, including the largest jumping pillow in the state. Other activities include a hay ride, a giant slide tower, a pumpkin patch play area, and of course, as corn maze. In an awesome PR move, Mount Pleasant will incorporate its new town logo as the centerpiece of the corn maze. Tickets are $8 on weekdays and $10 on the weekend, all ages. Parents can save some money on Tuesdays with the Two for Tuesday special, letting an adult get in free with a paid child admission. And don’t forget, pumpkins are available for purchase by the pound.
For some fun and a history lesson, check out Johns Island’s Myrtle Maze and Pumpkin Patch, home of Charleston’s original 12-acre maze. The maze will be open to the public every weekend through the month of October. One dollar lets you enjoy all the festivities, including the scarecrow factory, a mini-maze, a farm animal display, and more. Concessions will be available. You can get your adrenaline going with a nighttime haunted hayride and maze on Oct. 22-23 from 8 p.m. to midnight.
The South Carolina Aquarium turns into the Scary’um Aquarium this month, featuring plenty of marine-themed Halloween events. A new limited-time program, “Animal Enrichment with Pumpkins,” will take place every Sunday. Visitors will have a chance to see alligators, otters, penguins, and eagles explore pumpkins placed in their environments. On top of that, “Fish or Dare” daily dive shows will be going on throughout the month. Another new arrival is the Shipwreck Tunnel, plus the haunted Camp Carolina, featuring South Carolina’s infamous Lizardman. Visitors can get hands on with the Scare Cart, letting them get close-up action with owls, snakes, and eels. An added incentive: kids get $2 off admission for coming in costume. An aquarium favorite, the venue will host the annual members-only “Fish or Treat” bash on Oct. 29. Costumed families get a chance to explore the aquarium peppered with Halloween activities along the way.
And for those traveling to Charleston, Planter’s Inn is offering a Spectral Safari package from Oct. 1 to Nov. 30. The package deal begins at $279 per night and includes accomodations in a deluxe guest room, a choice of one of three tours via Bulldog Tours, a Halloween inspired sweet crafted by the Peninsula Grill, and spooky welcome cocktails for two.
