What’s the sign of a really bad attack ad? When the opposition trashes the ad in a release AND includes a link.

Such is the case for the last-minute salvo from Republican Ken Ard, running for lieutenant governor.

Democrat Ashely Cooper is apparently ruffling feathers at the Ard campaign. When it came time to insert a smug picture of Cooper in Ard’s attack ad, they went another way. Accusing Cooper of “deceptions”, Ard’s ad ironically shows a picture of a shifty politician-type who is not Ashley Cooper.

“You don’t do things like this,” said Cooper spokesman Lachlan McIntosh. “It’s just not ethical, even for a slick politician like Ken Ard,”

Cooper recently received local press endorsements from the conservative Charleston Mercury, The Post and Courier, and the Charleston City Paper.
