Monday. Get the holiday week started off right with Shovels & Rope on the back of the Pour House by joining Cary Ann Hearst and Michael Trent as they play a variety of hillbilly classics, blues, country, and rockabilly.
Tuesday. For those Freeloaders in need, Life Center Ministries of North Charleston is providing a full Thanksgiving dinner at their cathedral.
This is also your last chance to check out Brazilian photographer Pedro Lobo’s Favelas: The Architecture of Survival. Favelas are the shantytowns of Rio de Janeiro. The exhibit is a collection of 40 large-format prints that take a deep look into the lives of the destitute of Brazil’s second largest city.
Wednesday. Each Wednesday musicians gather under the pines out at Awendaw Green, located behind the Sewee Outpost for the weekly Barn Jam. This week’s lineup is a contemporary Christian music showcase featuring Amber Caparas, Hanna Burton, Marc Collins, and the T. Culler Band.
Thursday. Thanksgiving wouldn’t be complete without a Turkey Trot. For all the early rising Freeloaders who enjoy a brisk walk or jog on the beach, head out to Night Heron Park at 8 a.m. on Kiawah for a one- to three-mile trot.
Kiawah is also hosting a Family Sand Sculpting competition with categories such as best holiday theme and most creative. Families should bring their best ideas and tools to the West Beach Straw Market beach access point at 1 p.m.
For the family already out at Kiawah, it may be nice to make it an all day affair by attending the Fall Family Festival. The festival features a bluegrass band, an inflatable jump castle, a crazy train, and family friendly competitions throughout.
Weekend. After spending Thursday with family, eating, watching football, and eating it’s a good idea to get out of the house and listen to some local live music. There are tons of musicians playing free music around town; just check the Music+Clubs section of the site for a full listing. But, City Paper members seem to think local blues-rock duo Cotton Blue at Aroma’s is a prime choice. Cotton Blue is Gator Rob and Detroit Debbie. They will be playing Aroma’s both Friday and Saturday night starting at 7:30 p.m.
