While songwriter Justin Townes Earle recently embarked on a national tour behind his new album Harlem River Blues โ a road trip that includes a stop at the Pour House on Sun. Dec. 12 (look for coverage in this week’s Music+Clubs section) โ his daddy, Steve Earle, was recently honored by the Recording Academy.
The elder Earle earned a Grammy nomination in the Best Song Written for Motion Picture, Television or Other Visual Media category. The nomination is for his song โThis Cityโ that closed the season finale of HBOโs critically acclaimed series Treme (Earle, Sr. acted in the New Orleans-based show as well).
Produced by T Bone Burnett and featuring arrangements by Allen Toussaint, โThis Cityโ was written specifically for the series. Earleโs previous album Townes (New West) โ a tribute to his friend and mentor, the late singer-songwriter Townes Van Zandt, featuring JTE and Steve in a duet on a rendition โMr. Mudd & Mr. Goldโ โ won a Grammy in the Best Contemporary Folk Album Category.
