Monday. Tonight is the Charleston Center for Photography’s monthly Second Monday Lecture Series.
Tuesday. Stop by the Joe for the RiverDogs New Year’s Deal sale. Plus, local musician Aaron Firetag knows that birthdays are all about you, which is why for his own, he’s hosting a show featuring all four of his local bands (FolkGrass, Quasiphonics, Lost Highway, and Skwirl Grinda).
Wednesday. Dr. Robert Young will present on bottlenose dolphins and their role in salt marsh estuaries. As if you needed another reason to like dolphins.
Thursday. Ever look back on your college experience and wish you had majored in philosophy? I mean, really, it’s the most practical thing you could possibly study, and I’m sure there’s plenty of jobs out there for it. If this is one of your biggest regrets, Philosophy with the Faculty, featuring a presentation by professor Larry Krasnoff, will show you what you missed out on.
Friday. Collective | Eclectic opens at the Real Estate Studio, with works by Chris Dotson, Joyce Hall, and Martin Ahrens.
Saturday. As far as free stuff goes, Saturday is the day for it. You’ve got the Big Game Party at the Mt. Pleasant Kickin’ Chicken (where you can win tickets to the Super Bowl). You can watch 24 local artists duke it out at the FR3SH Portrait Battle at Redux. Authors Bowman Gray IV and Gia Lee are having book signings. And, as long as you’re over the age of 18, you can stop by Who Wants to Be a Porn Star?, a lecture at the Charleston Marriot, where you will “take a hard look at pornography, not in terms of a reactionary sexual morality, but in the context of this material’s real effects in the world.”
Sunday. My bubbes in South Florida are hoping I stop by Quiches, Kugels, and Couscous. Joan Nathan will share French Jewish cooking at the Stern Center.
