Hurricanes were a welcome force on Folly Beach this fall. Thanks to Earl, Igor, and Nicole, the three storms that whipped up consistent swell for most of August and September, Folly’s best riders got plenty of big-wave action this year. Even luckier: It was all caught on film.

Thomas Brothers Productions, made up of Bryan, Ellison, and Robert, a family of surfers and videographers, recently released the trailer to Waves in Our Pocket at their website. Backed by McKevlin’s Surf Shop, they’ve acquired a few big-name sponsors.

Bryant, a film student at Trident Tech, hopes Waves will be the launching pad both for his career and for Folly as a nationally respected surf locale. “A lot of people are starting to see it,” says Bryant. “We thought we were scoring during Hurricane Earl, but then Nicole … it was definitely on from there. It turned into, ‘This is actually going to be a really good movie.’ I think people are going to be really impressed.”

A debut is scheduled for March 26 at the American Theater on King Street, with a street party screening outside Surf Bar on Folly Beach in the works for early April.
