MONDAY. Today’s National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day. Come observe and reflect on the crisis at the Lowcountry AIDS Services. Meanwhile, the Blues Bash is still going strong. The Christopher Dean/ Mike Mettalia Trio will play some electric Blues Head at Southend Brewery while Biscuit Miller and the Mix will provide a more funk influence at the Charleston County Public Library.
TUESDAY. Love the parks in Charleston? So do we. Head to Cannon Park to learn about the park and its horticulture with the Charleston Park Angels but be sure to bring supplies to help out. Tuesday seems like a great night to hear some more rhythm and blues from the Blues Bash’s many bands. Davis Coen is at The Mill in North Charleston, the Groovetones are at Fiery Ron’s Home Team BBQ, and Doug Deming and the Jewel Tones will perform with Dennis Gruenling and Paul Germia at the Public Library are just a few options.
WEDNESDAY. Audubon’s February guest speaker, Marvin N. Davant (executive director of the South Carolina Conservation Bank) will discuss successes and significant challenges facing the bank and its connection to Audubon and S.C. wildlife. E.B. Lewis, known for his watercolors and illustrations in popular children’s books, will speak at the Dart After Dark series at the John L. Dart Library.
THURSDAY. Ready for something totally new, maybe even a little strange? CofC’s Halsey Institute of Contemporary Art introduces viewers to Eames Demetrios’ alternative universe called Kcymaerxthaere. Hand-woven embroideries created by the people of Penduka, a women’s collective in Namibia, will be on sale with proceeds going to the Charleston Kcymaerxthaere plaque installations.
FRIDAY. Need some inspiration or just a heart-warming tale to warm you up? Check out S.C. filmmaker Stan Woodward’s last documentary Nothing to Prove: The Story of Mac Arnold’s Return to the Blues, a tale of one man’s musical journey. The Beba’s Luxe Trunk Show will feature local designer/ silversmith Deanna Pace’s jewelry and accessories. Elizabeth McKeever, Griffith/Reyburn Lowcountry Artist of the Year, will present her abstract solo show, Perspectives, at the grand opening of the new foundation office at the Coastal Community Foundation Center.

Enjoy the freedom of jaywalking along the normally busy street, eat outside at one of the many restaurants that will serve you on the pavement, and browse the merchandise along the way. Or change up your Sunday routine and head to Charleston Library Society’s showing of Me Facing Life: Cyntoia’s Story. The film, a hard look at Cyntoia’s troubled life, isn’t your usual Sunday show and will be followed by a panel discussion.
