Craig Bickhardt

East Cooper venue Buddy Roe’s Shrimp Shack will host an event for local songwriters. Acclaimed songsmith and arranger Craig Bickhardt — a 30-year veteran who’s written for numerous country and rock superstars and recorded for Warner Bros. and Capitol Records — will conduct a songwriting workshop from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Sat. Feb. 12.

“Craig is an amazing and accomplished talent,” says local songwriter Becca Bessinger, who helped organize the event. “He’s a wonderful man and mentor.”

The sessions include 30-minute, one-on-one sessions for local musicians interested in learning more about the musical, lyrical, and commercial craft of songwriting. “Whether you write songs to market to your own audience as a performing songwriter, or songs to pitch to other artists, selling the song means maximizing its potential for broad-based appeal,” states Bickhardt in a press release. “In this information-packed seminar, you’ll learn specific tools for improving your lyrics, melodies, and chord structures, and giving your songs more impact.”

The workshop is sponsored by the local chapter of the Nashville Songwriters Association International (NSAI). Sessions cost $30 for NSAI members and $35 for non-members. Bickhardt performs a solo show at Buddy Roe’s at 8 p.m. on Thurs. Feb. 10 as well.
